Target Database Webpage Documentation
Overview
The Target Database Webpage is designed to manage and display information related to various observation proposals and instruments. It provides functionalities to create and display targets with different observation proposals, including EIS and MISE instruments.
Features
1. Observation Proposals
The webpage supports managing observation proposals for different instruments. Each proposal includes various fields specific to the instrument.
Observation proposals for EIS
In the django framework:
- Target: Foreign key to the
Target model.
- Instrument: CharField with default value 'EIS'.
- Observation Mode: Foreign key to the
ObservationMode model.
- Observation Band: Many-to-many relationship with the
ObservationBand model.
- Off-Nadir Max: Decimal field for maximal off-nadir angle.
- Sun Azimuth Low: Decimal field for sun azimuth lower limit.
- Sun Azimuth High: Decimal field for sun azimuth higher limit.
- Incidence Low: Decimal field for incidence angle lower limit.
- Incidence High: Decimal field for incidence angle higher limit.
- Phase Low: Decimal field for phase angle lower limit.
- Phase High: Decimal field for phase angle higher limit.
- Emission Low: Decimal field for emission angle lower limit.
- Emission High: Decimal field for emission angle higher limit.
- Resolution: Decimal field for minimal resolution.
- Local Time: Time field with default value set to midnight.
Observation proposals for MISE
In the django framework:
- Target: Foreign key to the
Target model.
- Instrument: CharField with default value 'MISE'.
- Wavelength Table: Foreign key to the
MISEWavelengthTable model.
- Sun Azimuth Low: Decimal field for sun azimuth lower limit.
- Sun Azimuth High: Decimal field for sun azimuth higher limit.
- Incidence Low: Decimal field for incidence angle lower limit.
- Incidence High: Decimal field for incidence angle higher limit.
- Phase Low: Decimal field for phase angle lower limit.
- Phase High: Decimal field for phase angle higher limit.
- Emission Low: Decimal field for emission angle lower limit.
- Emission High: Decimal field for emission angle higher limit.
- Resolution: Decimal field for minimal resolution.
- Local Time: Time field.
2. Galileo SSI Observations
Metadata from raw .lbl files (PDS) with the corresponding raw image. Individual SSI images can be linked to overlapping targets. From the home view, hit 'Galileo SSI database' to search the catalogue of all individual SSI images.
Outlook: The same will be implemented for NIMS data.
Usage
Creating a New Target
- Navigate to 'Target database'
- Select 'Add Target'
- Fill in the required fields and draw a polygon on the map. The polygon is editable as long as the 'Save' button is not yet hit.
- Hit the 'Save' button, which redirects to the target list view.
Creating a New Observation Proposal
- Click on the target for which you wish to add an observation proposal.
- Click the button 'Add EIS/MISE Observation'.
- Fill in the required fields.
- Click "Save" to save the proposal.
Viewing Observation Proposals
- Click on the target for which you wish to see the details.
- Press 'Edit' for the desired proposal from the list to view its details.
- Click 'Save' to return.
Editing an Observation Proposal
- Navigate to the "Observation Proposals" page.
- Select the proposal to edit.
- Update the necessary fields.
- Click "Save" to save the changes.
Deleting an Observation Proposal or a Target
It is currently not possible to delete an observation proposal or a target due to logical reasoning.
Conclusion
The Target Database Webpage provides a comprehensive interface for managing targets and observation proposals. It supports various instruments and allows users to submit their targets, which can then be used to optimise science return with Europa Clipper.
